Browsing safely
If someone else uses your phone or computer, or you would rather nobody knew you were reading about fertility, these steps help keep your visit private.
Steps and numbers last checked on 1 November 2026.
The Quick exit button
Every page has a Quick exit button in the bottom corner. Tap it, or press Shift three times, and the page disappears straight away and a weather page opens in its place.
It also deletes the small notes Cairn keeps in your browser (such as a reminder that you applied to the community) and sends no sign to the weather page that you came from here. Pressing Back takes you to the page before Cairn, not to the page you left.
What it cannot do is erase the rest of your browser history. Any other Cairn pages you opened will still be listed there. The steps below cover that.
Use a private window
A private window keeps no history, and forgets everything when you close it. It is the simplest protection if someone else uses your phone or computer.
- Chrome and Edge on a computer: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (Mac).
- Firefox on a computer: Ctrl + Shift + P (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + P (Mac).
- Safari on a Mac: Cmd + Shift + N.
- iPhone (Safari): tap the tabs button, then Private.
- Android (Chrome): tap the three-dot menu, then New Incognito tab.
Remove Cairn from your history
If you did not use a private window, you can delete just the Cairn pages rather than all of your history. Clearing everything can be more noticeable than removing a few entries.
- On a computer: open History (Ctrl + H, or Cmd + Y in Safari), search for "cairn", select the results and delete them.
- On an iPhone: in Safari, open the bookmarks button, then the History tab, search for "cairn" and swipe left to delete.
- On Android: in Chrome, open the menu, then History, search for "cairn" and remove each entry.
Other places a visit can show up
- Synced accounts. If you are signed in to Chrome, Edge or Safari with an account someone else can see, your history may appear on their device too.
- Shared email. If you apply to the Cairn community, our reply goes to the email address you give. Use one only you can read.
- Work, school or public Wi-Fi. The network owner can usually see that you visited this website, though not which pages.
- Search suggestions. Your search engine may suggest past searches when someone else starts typing. You can delete them from your search history.
What Cairn keeps about you
Nothing that follows you around. Cairn uses no analytics, advertising trackers or tracking cookies, so there is no record of your visit held anywhere except your own device. Our privacy policy lists the few small notes the site keeps in your browser, and Quick exit removes all of them.
